Quotes

Regret : Regret is like an anchor that is not allowing your ship of hope and opportunity sail forward. Let your anchor of regret go. Then watch your sails catch the winds of your dreams. Of your hopes.

Sail ahead, my friend!

Hormones and happiness

There are four hormones* which determine a *human's happiness -*
1. *Endorphins,*
2. *Dopamine,*
3. *Serotonin,*
and
4. *Oxytocin.*
It is important we understand these hormones, as we *need all four* of them *to stay happy.

Let's look at the *first hormone* the *Endorphins.*
*When we exercise, the body releases Endorphins.*
This hormone helps the body cope with the pain of exercising. We then *enjoy exercising* because these Endorphins will make us happy.
*Laughter is* another good way of *generating Endorphins.*
We need to spend *30 minutes exercising* every day, read or *watch funny stuff* to get our day's dose of Endorphins.

*The second hormone is Dopamine.*
In our journey of life, we accomplish many *little and big tasks, it releases* various levels of *Dopamine.*
*When we get appreciated for our work at the office or at home,* we feel accomplished and good, that is *because it releases Dopamine.*
This also explains *why* most *housewives* are *unhappy* since they *rarely* get *acknowledged* or appreciated *for their work.* Once, we join work, we *buy* a car, a house, the latest gadgets, a *new house* so forth. In each instance, it *releases Dopamine* and we become happy.
Now, do we realize why we become happy when we shop?

*The third hormone Serotonin* is released when we *act in a way that benefits others.*
When we transcend ourselves and give back to others or *to nature or to the society, it releases Serotonin.* Even,
providing useful information on the internet like *writing information* blogs, answering peoples questions on Quora or *Facebook groups will generate Serotonin.*
That is *because* we will use our *precious time to help other* people via our answers or articles.

*The final hormone is Oxytocin,*
is released *when* we become *close to other human* beings.
When we *hug our friends* or family *Oxytocin is released.*
The *"Jadoo Ki Jhappi"* from Munnabhai *does really work.*
Similarly, when we *shake hands* or put our *arms around* someone's shoulders, various amounts of *Oxytocin is released.*

So, it is simple, we have to *exercise every day* to get *Endorphins,*
we have to *accomplish* little *goals* and get *Dopamine,*
we *need to* be *nice* to others to *get  Serotonin* and
finally *hug our kids,*
friends, and families to *get Oxytocin* and we will *be happy.*
*When we are happy, we can deal* with our challenges and *problems better.*

Now, we can understand *why we need to hug a child who has a bad mood.*

So to.
*make your child* more and more *happy* day by day ...

1.*Motivate him to play* on the ground
*-Endorphins*

2. *Appreciate your child* for his small big achievements
*-Dopamine*

3. *inculcate sharing* habit through you self your child
*-Serotonin*

4. *Hug* your child
*-Oxytocin*

The Mahabharata and it's relevance

One Constant question that crops up in my mind or a regular basis is "Who am I, and what is the purpose of my life on earth?"  This then leads me to think about God and the Hinduism, if it is a Religion or just a way of life. It has to be a way of life as their is no Church or head of Church like the Pope. There are Hindu Temple places of worship and the priests role is to say Sanskrit prayers on your behalf. The Temple Priest is no Church Pastor and never tells you how to live your life. Hinduism is not a man made religion and there is no one between me and my God. I have always believed that Truth is God, Love is God and my inner voice aka Conscience is God. But then what are the Hindu Epics Ramayana and Mahabharata ? Mere Stories ? Never fully understood despite having read so many pieces trying to explain Hinduism

And then a few days back this landed on me sent by a whatsapp buddy. I read it and as I was reading it, I sat up, as it was what I have been looking for explained in simple english. Wow All my questions have been answered in one Whatsapp message.

This is a Whatsapp Forward and not written by me but will cherish for ever......

It is said in the texts that 80% of the fighting male population of the civilization was wiped out in the eighteen days "Mahabharata war".

Sanjay, at the end of the war went to the spot where the greatest war took place; Kurukshetra.

He looked around and wondered if the war really happened, if the ground beneath him had soaked all that blood, if the great Pandavas and Krishna stood where he stood.

“You will never know the truth about that!” said an aging soft voice.

Sanjay turned around to find an Old man in saffron robes appearing out of a column of dust.

“I know you are here to find out about the Kurukshetra war, but you cannot know about that war till you know what the real war is about.” the Old man said enigmatically.

“What do you mean?”

The Mahabharata is an Epic, a ballad, perhaps a reality, but definitely a philosophy.

The Old man smiled luring Sanjay into more questions.

“Can you tell me what the philosophy is then?”
Sanjay requested.

Sure, began the Old man.

The Pandavas are nothing but your five senses,

sight,
smell,
taste,
touch
and sound...,

and do you know what the Kauravas are? he asked narrowing his eyes.

The Kauravas are the hundred vices that attack your senses everyday but you can fight them... and do you know how?

Sanjay shook his head again.

“When Krishna rides your chariot!”

The Old man smiled brighter and Sanjay gasped at that gem of insight.

Krishna is your inner voice, your soul, your guiding light and if you let your life in his hands you have nothing to worry.

Sanjay was stupefied but came around quickly with another question.

“Then why are Dronacharya and Bhishma fighting for the Kauravas, if they are vices?”

The Old man nodded, sadder for the question.

It just means that as you grow up, your perception of your elders change. The elders who you thought were perfect in your growing up years are not all that perfect. They have faults. And one day you will have to decide if they are for your good or your bad. Then you may also realize that you may have to fight them for the good. It is the hardest part of growing up and that is why the Geeta is important.

Sanjay slumped down on the ground, not because he was tired but because he could understand and was struck by the enormity of it all.

What about Karna? he whispered.

“Ah!” said the Old man. “You have saved the best for last. Karna is the brother to your senses, he is desire, he is a part of you but stands with the vices. He feels wronged and makes excuses for being with the vices as your desire does all the time.

Does your desire not give you excuses to embrace vices?”

Sanjay nodded silently. He looked at the ground, consumed with a million thoughts, trying to put everything together and then when he looked up the Old man was gone.... disappeared in the column of dust..... leaving behind the great philosophy of Life!

Have a blissful day!

Grow trees with one litre water

Following are the steps that Verma uses to grow trees with just a litre of water:

1. Level the farmland to prevent rainwater from draining away.

2. For 5-6 days after the first rain, plough the fields till one feet deep to remove the weeds and capillaries so that rainwater can seep into the ground and does not rise to the surface.

3. Deep plough for the second time immediately after the rains are over. This will turn the upper soil to a minimum of 10 inches deep in the field locking the water in the soil.

4. A few days after the second ploughing, dig pits of one-feet-deep and 4-5 inches wide.

5. Plant the saplings in the pits and ensure that the roots are at least 20 cm below the surface. Cover the plant with wet mud to keep the moisture for long.

6. Finally pour one litre of water in the pit and allow the plant to grow.

It helps to plant the saplings by September end as the temperatures in Rajasthan are low at this time of the year which allows roots to penetrate as deep as possible. As we enter summer, the top soil surface starts to dry up and the moisture content of the plant moves downwards.

Verma uses traditional methods taught by his father that use less water, “My dad would also fetch the wet mud from the lake and mix cow dung in it. The wet mud would retain the moisture and the cow dung would prevent capillaries from growing.”

---------------------------

From Edilson:

Hi All,

As many of you know today is Rohin's last day at CBA after 7 years of countless contributions to the bank and to many of us professionally and personally. He's participated on so many important projects and processes, bringing new joiners up to speed (including me), he was a key piece in on boarding the off shore team, and I know that even after he's gone we'll be able to benefit from the results of his hard work. I'm sure many of us have worked and learned with him during this time and I hopefully we will carry a little bit of the same passion and care he's always shown.

He also made sure we had cake for our team members birthday so it's only fair we now share together some cake at the kitchen and wish him all the best on his new journey.

P.S - I heard @Akhil is bringing the cake, chase him if you didn't get a piece J

How is destiny created?

In Mahabharat, #Karna asks Lord #Krishna - "My mother left me the moment I was born. Is it my fault I was born an illegitimate child?

I did not get the education from Dhronacharya because I was considered a non-Kshatriya.

Parshu-Raam taught me but then gave me the curse to forget everything since I was a Kshatriya.

A cow was accidentally hit by my arrow & its owner cursed me for no fault of mine.

I was disgraced in Draupadi's swayamvar.

Even Kunti finally told me the truth only to save her other sons.

Whatever I received was through Duryodhana's charity.

So how am I wrong in taking his side?"

Lord Krishna replies,
"Karna, I was born in a jail.

Death was waiting for me even before my birth.

The night I was born I was separated from my birth parents.

From childhood, you grew up hearing the noise of swords, chariots, horses, bow, and arrows. I got only cow herd's shed, dung, and multiple attempts on my life even before I could walk!

No army, no education. I could hear people saying I am the reason for all their problems.

When all of you were being appreciated for your valour by your teachers I had not even received any education. I joined gurukula of Rishi Sandipani only at the age of 16!

You are married to a girl of your choice. I didn't get the girl I loved & rather ended up marrying those who wanted me or the ones I rescued from demons.

I had to move my whole community from the banks of Yamuna to far off Sea shore to save them from Jarasandh. I was called a coward for running away!!

If Duryodhana wins the war you will get a lot of credit. What do I get if Dharmaraja wins the war? Only the blame for the war and all related problems...

Remember one thing, Karna. Everybody has challenges in life.

LIFE IS NOT FAIR ON ANYBODY!!!

Duryodhana also has a lot of unfairness in life and so has Yudhhishthir.

But what is Right (Dharma) is known to your mind (conscience). No matter how much unfairness we got, how many times we were disgraced, how many times we were denied what was due to us, what is important is how you REACTED at that time.

Stop whining Karna. Life's unfairness does not give you license to walk the wrong path...

Always remember, Life may be tough at a point, but DESTINY is not created by the SHOES we wear but by the STEPS we take...
